The human face, with all its complexities is by far the most difficult of subjects.  The artist must develop the intuition of a lifetime to skillfully unfold the inner spirit of each subject.

“I have been painting professionally for over 30 years.  Although from age 7   I have been intrigued by drawing and painting the human form, I enjoy the task of bringing florals and landscapes to life in either pastel or oil.

During a portrait session I try to encourage my sitter to relax into a natural pose so I can embrace the qualities that are the essence of this person’s characteristics.  These are the attributes I endeavor to capture and accentuate whether from a life sitting or a photograph.

I am amazed and fascinated with the painting process itself and never seem to tire of it.  My hope is that the finished painting will be as good as the intentions I set forth early on.  My goals are simple and direct.  I prefer to paint what I know best without any hidden messages or meaning.  To depict a human being or flower or field of grass in their perfectly natural state to me is creating truth and beauty to a visual language that all can identify with.”

The 1990 awarding of the official portrait of former Secretary of the Army, John O. Marsh Jr., is notable in that Rogers is the first woman artist to be chosen for this particular gallery at the Pentagon, Washington D.C.
